I just saw the acclaimed documentary Anvil – The Story of Anvil about the old Canadian metal band of the same name that was quite big on the scene in the early 80s, but somehow failed to match the success of its peers (like Slayer and Metallica) and then faded into obscurity.
I can’t say non-alternative heavy metal is my favorite genre of music (except for a couple of tracks here and there that I love), but metal fan or not – The Story of Anvil is an inspirational, hilarious and touching story about a group of people refusing to give up on their dream. At times it’s almost like a real life version of the mockumentary This is Spinal Tap. I recommend you watch it if you haven’t already. It both moved me to tears and had me laughing.
